Google recently introduced a new hosted ad management service which will allow publishers to manage their own display and rich media ad campaigns. The service is still in beta and currently only available by invitation, but once the program opens up to all publishers, new ad revenue opportunities will exist for publishers who normally relied on AdSense revenue and commission based affiliate programs.
Although similar services exist, like OpenX for example, from what I know so far the major difference is that the Google service hosts the ad for the publisher for free, rather than the publisher having to provide the ad hosting. And from what I’ve seen so far, the interface makes the entire ad management process so simple that anyone with AdSense experience can easily take on the challenge. Overall the Google service should be very easy to adopt.
Although this will not change the online ad industry for most large publishers, for publishers like myself who have smaller but rapidly growing Websites, integrating this revenue model will most definitely open up new doors of opportunity.
