Wal-Mart says it’s not building the supercenter on the actual battlefield but rather on the edge of the battlefield, outside the national park, and they will hide the store from view of the battlefield. Preservationists and historians disagree over this and say the proposed site might not be where actual fighting occurred, but it’s where a lot of war activity took place, such as where armies ran medical teams and reinforcements up and down.
In any event, do we really need to see a Wal-mart Supercenter located on the same landscape as a Civil War battlefield? I guess for Wal-Mart, the almighty dollar wins over patriotism. We don’t care that you want to build a store, but please take you money and relocate the store to somewhere more appropriate. I don’t want to think about shopping at Walmart while I’m visiting a Civil War Battlefield.
